Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are oral medications that specifically inhibit factors IIa or Xa.
They are also known as new oral anticoagulants (NOACs) or target-specific oral anticoagulants (TSOACs).
DOACs are the preferred name according to the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis
