Cigarette smoking is considered one of the leading causes of preventable morbidity and premature death worldwide. A large portion of this is attributable to cardiovascular disease such as ischemic heart disease and stroke. However, with the public’s increasing awareness of the harm and diseases related directly to cigarette smoke, alternative combustion-free nicotine delivery products have gained in popularity. Two of the products which have seen substantial market growths during the last few years are Swedish snus and electronic cigarettes. In recent years, an increasing number of studies have demonstrated a correlation between snus usage and increased mortality in coronary heart disease and stroke. Although there are studies with contradictory results, regarding the general underlying increase of cardiovascular risk. So far, there is limited data available on the potential negative health effects of e-cigarette smoking. The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate vascular health effects caused by acute cigarette and e-cigarette inhalation as well as chronic snus usage.
Methods and Results: In Paper I, twelve healthy volunteers were subjected to cigarette smoking or not-smoking in a cross-over study. Microvesicles and endothelial progenitor cells were analyzed in collected blood samples at baseline and 1h, 4h and 24h following exposure. Cigarette smoking caused an acute increase in endothelial progenitor cells and in microvesicles of platelet, leukocyte and endothelial origin. Paper II was a randomized, cross-over study where 16 healthy volunteers were exposed to electronic cigarette inhalation with nicotine vs non-inhalation. Biomarkers were analyzed in the same approach as in Paper I. E-cigarette inhalation caused an acute increase in endothelial progenitor cells. Microvesicles, with the exception of endothelial derived microvesicles, were unaffected. In Paper III, seventeen healthy volunteers inhaled e-cigarette vapor with and without nicotine. In this double-blinded, randomized, cross-over study arterial stiffness was analyzed at baseline and at predetermined intervals for 4 hours following exposure. E-cigarette vapor inhalation containing nicotine caused a transient acute increase in heart rate and arterial stiffness. Paper IV was a cross-sectional study investigating healthy long-term snus users (mean age 44.8 years) and age-matched controls. Arterial stiffness, forearm blood flow as well as fibrinolytic function and endothelial progenitor cells in blood samples were analyzed. Snus users had significantly higher arterial stiffness as well as impaired endothelial function, i.e. decreased forearm blood flow upon glyceryl tri-nitrate infusion. There was no difference in fibrinolytic function and endothelial progenitor cells between the two groups.
Discussion: Smoking a single cigarette causes a rapid activation of endothelial cells, platelets and leukocytes. As cigarette smoking has known detrimental effects on vascular health, our results were not unexpected. However, e-cigarette inhalation as well as smoking a conventional cigarette, causes a similar swift mobilization of endothelial progenitor cells. This may be interpreted as an acute endothelial stress caused by nicotine. Furthermore, inhaled nicotine is linked to increases in arterial stiffness, which is chronically altered in daily snus users. This elucidates that nicotine alone may alter endothelial function, both upon acute and chronic exposure. Snus users also display an attenuated effect of glyceryl tri-nitrate which further strengthens the findings that snus use is associated with increased mortality following myocardial infarction. In summary, we demonstrate that the nicotine content in combustion-free nicotine delivering products may alter vascular function. E-cigarettes and snus should therefore not be considered as harmless recreational products.

Βάζεις τις kWh σου και σου υπολογίζει πόσο θα πληρώσεις ανά εταιρεία στο κομμάτι των ανταγωνιστικών χρεώσεων (οι οποίες είναι κι αυτές που σε ενδιαφέρει να ψάξεις μία και οι ρυθμιζόμενες χρεώσεις είναι παντού ίδιες).
Μπορεί με ένα κλικ να σου ταξινομήσει τις εταιρείες από τη φθηνότερη στην ακριβότερη, να φιλτράρεις ώστε να σου δείχνει π.χ μόνο τα μπλε ή μόνο τα κίτρινα τιμολόγια κλπ κλπ.
Βέβαια αν δεις κάτι ελκυστικό θα πρέπει στη συνέχεια πηγαίνοντας στο site του παρόχου να ψάξεις και τα ψιλά γράμματα του προγράμματος που σε ενδιαφέρει για να βεβαιωθείς για όρους και προϋποθέσεις...
Πάντως χρησιμοποιώντας αυτό το εργαλείο διαπιστώνει ΕΥΚΟΛΑ κανείς ότι η ανταγωνιστική χρέωση διαφέρει κατά πολύ από πρόγραμμα σε πρόγραμμα και δεν είναι όλα το ίδιο!! Για παράδειγμα μόλις δοκίμασα με κατανάλωση 1000kwh το μήνα και οι χρεώσεις κυμαίνονται από 87€(μπλε Ήρων) έως 257€ (πράσινο Ζενίθ).
Αναφέρομαι σε τιμές Ιανουαρίου 2026 εξαιρουμένων πολλών κίτρινων πρόγραμμάτων που δεν έχουν ακόμα δημοσιευτεί.

Ινδία: Δύο κρούσματα του ιού Νίπα στη Δυτική Βεγγάλη – Υπό έλεγχο η κατάσταση καθησυχάζουν οι Αρχές
Δύο κρούσματα του ιού Νίπα εντοπίστηκαν πρόσφατα στο κρατίδιο της Δυτικής Βεγγάλης στην Ινδία, όμως ο κίνδυνος εξάπλωσης της ασθένειας «περιορίστηκε εγκαίρως», ανακοίνωσε χθες, Τρίτη, το βράδυ το ινδικό υπουργείο Υγείας.
Προς το παρόν δεν υπάρχει εμβόλιο για τον ιό αυτόν ο οποίος μεταδίδεται στους ανθρώπους από τα ζώα ή από μολυσμένα τρόφιμα. Το ποσοστό θνησιμότητάς από τον Νίπα (Nipah) κυμαίνεται από 40 ως 75%, σύμφωνα με τον Παγκόσμιο Οργανισμό Υγείας.
«Ενισχυμένα μέτρα εποπτείας, διαγνωστικά τεστ και έρευνες επί του πεδίου (…) επέτρεψαν να περιοριστεί εγκαίρως ο αριθμός των κρουσμάτων», διαβεβαίωσε το ινδικό υπουργείο στην ανακοίνωσή του.
Δεν έχουν δοθεί στη δημοσιότητα λεπτομέρειες για την κατάσταση της υγείας των δύο ασθενών.
«Η κατάσταση τελεί υπό συνεχή παρακολούθηση και έχουν τεθεί σε εφαρμογή όλα τα απαιτούμενα μέτρα δημόσιας υγείας», συνέχισε το υπουργείο, προσθέτοντας ότι και οι 196 καταγεγραμμένες στενές επαφές των δύο ασθενών βρέθηκαν όλες αρνητικές
Η πρώτη επιδημία του ιού Νίπα καταγράφηκε το 1998, αφού ο ιός εξαπλώθηκε μεταξύ χοιροτρόφων στη Μαλαισία. Ο ιός πήρε το όνομά του από το χωριό της χώρας αυτής της Νοτιοανατολικής Ασίας όπου ανακαλύφθηκε.
Τα πρώτα κρούσματα στην Ινδία εντοπίστηκαν το 2001 στη Δυτική Βεγγάλη. Το 2018 επιδημία που ξέσπασε στην Κεράλα, στο νότιο τμήμα της χώρας, προκάλεσε 17 θανάτους.
Τα συμπτώματα περιλαμβάνουν υψηλό πυρετό, εμετούς και λοίμωξη του αναπνευστικού, ωστόσο σε σοβαρές περιπτώσεις μπορεί να εμφανιστούν σπασμοί και εγκεφαλίτιδα που οδηγεί σε κώμα.

Τα ποσοστά του ΠΑΣΟΚ καθηλωμένα ,αυτά της ΝΔ σε τέτοιο ύψος που η αυτοδυναμία φαντάζει μακρινό όνειρο.
Με το συνέδριο του ΠΑΣΟΚ την άνοιξη, την πίεση που ασκεί ο Δούκας στον Ανδρουλακη για ρητή δέσμευση μη συνεργασίας μετεκλογικά, ενώ η Διαμαντοπούλου θέλει το ακριβώς αντίθετο τα πράγματα αρχίζουν να θολώνουν.
Άρα τι μένει ?
Τα 2 κόμματα που κυβερνούν με την εξαίρεση της 4ετιας ΣΥΡΙΖΑ τα τελευταία 50 χρονια τη χωρα, να συνεχίσουν σφιχταγκαλιασμένα το ίδιο τροπάριο.
Εμείς πρέπει να ξεχάσουμε ότι και τα 2 είναι χρεοκοπημένα (οφείλουν 1 δις €), ειναι υπεύθυνα για σωρεία σκανδάλων, για τα οποία δεν λογοδότησε σχεδόν κανένα από τα στελέχη τους και εν πολλοίς έχουν το σημαντικότερο μερίδιο ευθύνης που η χωρα σε 20 χρόνια θα κατοικείται αποκλειστικά από συνταξιούχους μιας που οι νέοι μας ΔΕΝ έχουν κανένα κίνητρο να μείνουν σε μια χωρα, που η αναξιοκρατία και το ρουσφέτι συνεχίζουν να βασιλεύουν.
Τα ποσοστά του ΠΑΣΟΚ καθηλωμένα ,αυτά της ΝΔ σε τέτοιο ύψος που η αυτοδυναμία φαντάζει μακρινό όνειρο.

Εμείς πρέπει να ξεχάσουμε ότι και τα 2 είναι χρεοκοπημένα (οφείλουν 1 δις €), ειναι υπεύθυνα για σωρεία σκανδάλων, για τα οποία δεν λογοδότησε σχεδόν κανένα από τα στελέχη τους και εν πολλοίς έχουν το σημαντικότερο μερίδιο ευθύνης που η χωρα σε 20 χρόνια θα κατοικείται αποκλειστικά από συνταξιούχους μιας που οι νέοι μας ΔΕΝ έχουν κανένα κίνητρο να μείνουν σε μια χωρα, που η αναξιοκρατία και το ρουσφέτι συνεχίζουν να βασιλεύουν.

Άλλωστε δεν χρειάζεται να είναι κανείς Ψυχολόγος για να δει ότι ο Ανδρουλάκης (αλλά και ο Δούκας) δεν έχουν καλή χημεία με τον Μητσοτάκη.
( Θα ήταν αλλιώς τα πράγματα αν αρχηγός του ΠΑΣΟΚ ήταν η Διαμαντοπούλου ή ακόμη και ο Γερουλάνος ).
